Great article. I am Austrian, and Austria is 80% dependent on Russian gas and oil.
However, I don't see it that dramatically.
The idea of the European Union is to tie the countries together economically to prevent a war like it is happening currently.
It has worked well since 1989.
For somehow reason, Putin fell back into 1980s geopolitical thinking. The last two years of isolation were not the best idea for politicians to dwell on their thoughts.
The idea of the war is simple - control European resources, and you own Europe.
The dependency was mutual—Ressources from Russia to Europe and luxury goods from Europe to Russia.
The one thing that I believe Putin didn't consider is that Europe would risk being cut off from Gas and Oil supply.
Which Europe is doing with the sanctions against Russia.
I don't think the plan was thought through. I hope we find a way out of a wicked situation.
