After being an employee myself in the past, the likelihood of having a "bully boss" somewhen in the career is high.

You are right. The only way to deal with such a person is - go in silent mode. If you know the boss for a longer time period and he changes his behaviour, addressing the change in behaviour privately might help.

But for the others who find joy in bullying there employees - just find another job with a boss that has a better personality.

Becoming a victim or fighting against bullies, doesn't help much in life.

Distance does help.
