Great article. I still believe that having a big vision and breaking it down into daily, attainable goals makes the process more enjoyable.
Take running, for example.
You can enjoy the habit of running daily. There’s nothing wrong with that.
There’s no need for external competition—just run.
But setting a goal to increase your weekly mileage by 10 percent this month gives a real sense of accomplishment.
Or setting a goal to complete a marathon in three months.
It sets a different tone for your running habit over the next three months—more mileage, more speed training. And crossing the finish line of your first marathon becomes a spiritual memory.
Goals can be fun and rewarding. I wouldn’t want to miss out on them.
